California Asbestos Testing

Asbestos is the name given to a group of fibrous minerals that occur naturally in the environment. In the past, asbestos was added to many common building materials which continue to cause health and safety concerns all across California.

These asbestos containing materials can be found in homes, businesses and institutions. Common materials that may contain asbestos include pipes, wallboard, siding, tiles, flooring, plasters, fireproofing materials, insulation, joint compound, shingles, caulking, insulation and other products. Asbestos can also be found naturally occurring in many parts of California.

According to the EPA, “While it is present all over the state of California — in 42 of 58 counties — naturally occurring asbestos can be found most abundantly in and around Humboldt County, in areas of San Benito and Monterey counties, and in western El Dorado county.” Exposure to asbestos fibers can cause mesothelioma, asbestosis and lung cancer.

These conditions may not develop until years after exposure. LA Testing and EMSL Analytical have laboratories conveniently located across California that provide access to the industry’s leading asbestos testing scientists. These services are available to the public, health professionals, government agencies, industry and environmental consultants.
